Call to Artists

(HER)itage

FemArt Gallery Exhibition

October 1 - December 30, 2020

her·it·age

/ˈherədij/

Definition:  features belonging to the culture of a particular society, such as traditionslanguages, or buildings, that were created in the past and still have historical importance.

When we think of the word Heritage, it often draws to mind tangible artifacts passed down through generations - sculptures, edifice, written works, and the like. Cultural heritage expands on this to include the immaterial - oral traditions, knowledge, skills, and rituals that have shaped communities over time. Our cultural identities depend on our visions and interpretations of who are currently, and how these identities have been shaped through our lineage.

The role of women in creating and preserving intangible aspects of cultural heritage is historically and contemporarily significant. The visual voices of women today continue to link the generations of women before us and will impact the many generations to come.

This call to artists asks you to submit works expressive of your cultural background, traditions, and values expressed through visual media; paintings, drawings, printmaking, photography, and sculpture.
