Call to Artists
Beyond the Mask
FemArt Gallery Exhibition
January 18 - March 30, 2021
As we approach the end of 2020 "unprecedented times" seems to be the unanimously accepted description of a year marked by upheaval on a global scale. COVID-19 has impacted every aspect of life around the world, causing a seismic shift in the fabric of our social, political, and professional lives.
From quarantine, to masks, to social distancing, the the challenges of life during a global pandemic have pushed many of us to the comforts of art. Whether we are consuming it through movies, music, literature, or virtual galleries, or creating it through crafting, painting, drawing and more, art has come to the forefront to get us through these difficult times.
As artists, we have seen the ways of our community has adapted to this new way of life. Many of us have had to combat our own struggles during a pandemic, as we look inward and use art as an outlet to express our experiences reflecting on this journey.
FemArt is now calling all artists of myriad visual media to submit works created during the pandemic of 2020. Such works can consist of any media or subject matter, with the intention of showcasing just how important the arts are in times of strife. Such works should encompass how you have been able to express yourself over the past year, with an emphasis on some of the challenges and moments of joy that characterized your pandemic life. We also encourage any work honoring first responders, teachers, and the myriad heroes of the pandemic. This exhibition will run from the first of January through the end of March, 2021.
